A group of 15 leaders from Near East and North Africa will be in Kalamazoo as part of the Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) in late October and early November. Objectives for their program include reviewing best practices for preventing domestic violence; discussing techniques to identify forms of domestic violence, report abuse, prosecute abusers, and provide assistance and protection to victims of domestic violence; improve understanding of how fostering economic opportunities, education, entrepreneurship, political participation, and leadership, can serve as tools for combating violence; and examining education and outreach initiatives which focus on legal rights of victims of domestic violence.
