Higher Education Cooperation

IVLP Project for Panama (22) with IIE. Panel with Western Michigan University's Provost's Office, Western Michigan University's Office of Study Abroad, and the Western Michigan University Haenicke Institute for Global Education May 4.

This virtual project will address higher education in the United States and opportunities for international cooperation among higher education institutions in Panama and the United States.  This project will provide university leaders in Panama with new strategies and tools for adapting Panama’s academic institutions to the 21st century.  This will also be an opportunity to establish new connections between academic institutions in Panama and the U.S. that could potentially lead to new exchanges or cooperative programs.  Through meetings with both U.S. counterparts and subject-matter experts, participants will learn new methods for developing academic partnerships with U.S. institutions; how to adapt their systems and curriculum to digital platforms; how to harness the power of private sector partnerships to build their networks; and strategic tools for reforming university management at the organizational level.

Community hosts:

  • Dr. Jennifer Bott, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs;

  • Dr. Paulo Zagalo-Melo, Associate Provost, Haenicke Institute for Global Education;

  • Ms. Alice Molvern, Assistant Manager - International Partnerships, Haenicke;

  • Dr. Lee M. Penyak, Director of Study Abroad, Western Michigan University.
