A group of 26 professionals from Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Guinea, Madagascar, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, The Gambia, Togo, Uganda, and Zimbabwe will be in the United States between September 12 and October 3 for an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) project exploring strategic university partnerships. They will be in Kalamazoo in September.

The Department of State’s objectives for the project include exploring administration best practices at U.S. universities, colleges, and community colleges, and understanding how universities and colleges develop and maintain sustainable international partnerships. The program will also explore higher education accreditation, curriculum development, student admissions, joint research, intellectual freedom, and technological advances. Another part of the program aims to examine various U.S. higher education models used to respond to the evolving job market, and exploring public-private partnerships, with an emphasis on commercialization, technology transfer, and job creation.
